Former Wallabies and Kangaroos winger Wendell Sailor, 35, has retired from rugby league.

Flanked by his coach Wayne Bennett, Sailor made the announcement at the St George Leagues Club this morning.

At the end of the 2005 Super 12 season, he moved to the NSW Waratahs.

In 2006, he was suspended for two years for testing positive to cocaine.

After he had served his ban, he returned to rugby league and played for St George Illawarra for two seasons.

The Saint George Illawarra former dual international winger has played for the last 16 years and 222 first grade matches.

The former Australian and Queensland representative also played 37 rugby union Tests for the Wallabies.
