Drink 1.5 to 2 litres of water daily

Most of us are a little dehydrated. Obviously not enough to be life- threatening, but dehydrated enough to have a negative influence on our wellbeing.  Some water comes to us in food, particularly ‘wet’ foods such as fruit and vegetables.  But the best way to re-hydrate the body is to drink water.  Tea, coffee and alcohol, while containing water are diuretic, which means you tend to urinate more water than you drink.

The best way to ensure you are drinking 1.5l is to fill a 1.5l container with water first thing in the morning and make sure it is finished by 6 p.m.  If you prefer to drink mineral water, choose a flat variety rather than carbonated (bubbly). ·By drinking more water, over time you will find that you lose your taste for sweetened or flavoured beverages.

If you are trying to lose weight, drink a couple of glasses of water ½ an hour before a meal.  This will expand your stomach and give you a sense of fullness to avoid overeating at the meal.  You may drink a glass or two of fluid with or after a meal, but not more, as it will dilute digestive juices . One major complaint is the increased number of visits to the loo.  Your bladder takes about 2 - 3 weeks to get over the shock of all the extra fluid, and after this time will settle down, happy to expand to meet the new circumstances.

   Benefits of drinking water

  1. Improves memory + concentration
  2. Prevents constipation + headaches
  3. Improves  energy levels
  4. Skin feels years younger
  5. You feel better

And as you begin to feel better each day you will make thousands of decisions daily that reflect your improved self perception.
