Just like the races, a day out at the cricket is a great excuse to get dressed up and have some fun. The only difference is high heels are not a necessity and dressing for comfort is the key.
If you are going to the cricket to have a laid back day, enjoy the Aussie sunshine and have fun with family and friends, then there is no better place to be. Relaxing in your favourite jeans and t-shirt and your comfy flatties or thongs is definitelythe way to go.
Going to the cricket gives you the opportunity to go casual or really make a day of it and go all out in the fashion stakes.
If you are going to be sitting in the Members stand then the main thing to remember when working out your outfit for the cricket is that you want to look stylish and classy but you also want to be comfortable as it’s usually an all-day event.
When you are sitting in the Members you have the opportunity to dress up and never feel out of place.
Test Cricket is a traditional game that has been played for hundreds of years and is generally considered the sport of gentlemen. Spectators have always enjoyed dressing elegantly and this wonderful tradition continues today.
However, for anyone sitting in the Wembers or in the Women’s Stand at the SCG,it can be easy to get it wrong and be turned away.
Last year I organised to meet a girlfriend at the Sydney Cricket Ground for her to experience her first game of cricket. She arrived at the ground looking amazing in a gorgeous floral maxi dress with a pair of open toed flat sandals. I was already inside the ground watching Australia take on Pakistan. When she presented her ticket to gain entry to the members stand and with a long line of spectators behind her, she was told that she would not be allowed to enter this area as she was wearing ‘thongs’. Unfortunately I had not briefed her on the dress code. Luckily though, I had a spare pair of heels in my car so all was not lost.
To avoid being in a situation like this you need to remember these simple tips when sitting in the members stand:
+ No thongs of any description. Wear closed toe shoes unless you are wearing heels.
+ No board shorts or any beach attire
+ No midriffs or anything too revealing
Cricket is always played in summer so make the most of the warm conditions. Check the weather forecast on the morning of the game and dress appropriately. Don’t forget your hat and sunscreen and always remember to bring a jacket. When the sun goes down it gets rather chilly at the grounds.
This spring/ summer is all about pastels and nude colours and lots of pretty feminine dresses and skirts. Accessories are a must as they always add so much to an outfit.
My main tip when it comes to fashion is to try and have your own individual style. It’s pretty simple to pick up a magazine and copy the latest fashion trends of your favourite Hollywood celebrity and change it to make it your own. Be adventurous, try new colours, styles and shapes and work out what suits you and wear the outfit with confidence.
Going to the cricket is one of the best days you can have.
If you don’t believe me, then go and see for yourself.
